Vinyl is back. We hear it all the time. Truth is its always been there its just a whole lot easier to find now. So if you are looking to jump on the band waggon and ditch your hard drives for a record player where do you start? Well here are some of our favourite choices in 2017. All under the £300 mark.
The Lenco L-85 comes in at around £120 and its one of the best plug in and play record players we have seen for the price. It allows you to record your new records via USB and convert them to digital files. Its also semi automatic for those that are a little bit worried about dropping the needle for the first time and if thats not enough it comes in six different colours. Well worth looking at if you are in the market for your first turntable.
Now for something with a but more girth. Project have some unbelievably good turntables on the market and this is no exception. the Pro-Ject Primary might be one of their entry level decks but it really is a marvellous piece of kit. It comes in three different finishes but black is out favourite and comes in the box with a Ortofon cartridge. A really nice feature is changing the belt drive from 33 RPM to 45 RPM to play your 7 inch singles at £190 this record player will stand the test of time. You’ll want to upgrade your amplifier before you upgrade this turntable.
Rega Planar 1
The Rega Planar 1 comes in at around the £250 mark and what a piece of kit you get for the money. It won the What Hi-Fi award in 2016 and deservedly so. It comes in matt black and pearl white and will sit on a shelf, in any home and look like the absolute gem of a record player it is. It is a belt driven turntable and worth every penny.
